EFT Tapping, or Emotional Freedom technique, I was so intrigued by it when I tried it the first time, Then I saw it becoming more mainstream when I watched “Jane the Virgin”, the popular TV show on Netflix, that’s when I questioned what is Tapping? Is it effective? Is it possible that tapping can help you? My training in Tapping started after Jane the Virgin, I still cant believe it... I went through training at EFT International. Its been an amazing Journey.
EFT stands for “Emotional Freedom Technique” and is also known as EFT Tapping or Meridian Tapping. This technique is extremely effective, its a self-help method and is used by millions of people all over the world. It is known to be the Acupressure for your emotions, it releases negative thoughts that are stored in our bodies. When you are trying to overcome certain barriers in your life whether it be a limited belief or Trauma, PTSD, Pains, Anxiety etc. EFT is an amazing way to over come those emotional barriers that can make you feel stuck in certain aspects of your life.
We often have these physical and emotional blocks that bring up patterns of negative behaviour or discomfort in our body. EFT helps release those blocks. Usually in practice I get clients who come to me for something that has been on their minds and because of that they have anxiety and while we are tapping their emotions come up and they talk to me about things they went through in their childhood and that has stayed with them. Once they release that block and are honest with themselves, they begin their healing journey.
There are many ways to do tapping, did you know you don’t even have to talk about what you are going through or have gone through and still find a way to resolve the issue? Its amazing, isn’t it? A strength of tapping is that it can produce strong desired effects without any words if the person is inwardly attuned to the issue of concern.
If you can look beyond and are able to accept this technique for what it is the results are incredible.
Yes, EFT really works, its based on the traditional Acupuncture technique that uses energy meridians. In EFT you use your fingertips instead of needles to gently tap on the points to generate energy into these meridians. A lot of people are quite skeptical when it comes to trying EFT but as the awareness increases around energy healing, there are more and more people leaning towards trying new things that can help them heal their ongoing problems. I always say there are no side effects to this so why not give it a shot?
It is common for people to feel this is a woo woo technique, but once they try tapping and feel the benefits, their perception often changes to belief. There is emerging EFT research to prove its effectiveness. A recent brain imaging study found that stimulating acupoints while viewing unpleasant images not only made the experience of looking at the images become less aversive, the activation of brain regions involved with negative feelings also shifted (Wittfoth et al., 2020)
How does it work?
You focus on the 9 meridian points, as practitioners we call it the basic recipe. While tapping on those points we ask you to think of a certain problem in your life you would like to resolve, Pain, PTSD, Trauma. Keeping that in mind I ask you to tap exactly how you feel. Mostly negative thoughts. (Best way to say it is speak to yourself as if you are talking to a best friend about your issues, Be honest about your emotions around your problem)When you start accepting all negative feelings inside your body you are now allowing your subconscious mind to understand what is going on in your body. While tapping on the energy meridians we are restoring our body and minds balance by changing the pathways that were initially blocked. Once the release takes place the balance is achieved.
There is a sequence to follow when you are Tapping and when you do this a few times you will get the hang of it and, usually after only a few minutes, you will be able to do the sequence on your own and focus more on what you’re saying.
So my question to you is:
What is it that you would like to let go of today?
